Watch Promo
- THIS COURSE is designed for more experienced Event Producers
- There is little formal training for Showcallers. It is very difficult to learn under the pressurised atmosphere of rehearsals. I started teaching because I want those working in event production to have the chance to learn from someone with a lot of experience.
- Showcalling involves working alongside the producer in assimilating large amounts of information in a short period of time and manipulating the hectic nature of pressurised rehearsals into calling a seamless event.
- The challenge I encounter quite often is seeing a producer under a lot of pressure to please the client and believing the best way to manage this is to agree. Clients often don't understand the production process and can be easily thrown by seeing an incomplete rehearsal believing it to be how the final show will be presented.
- Once onsite they may ask for things which have been cut off the budget, potentially ending up with unsatisfactory belt and braces situations, .
- Showcallers can support you in demonstrating to clients a better solution and acting as the conduit between yourself, the client and the crew. It may not always succeed but this course will leave you with a greater understanding of best practice between producers, showcaller, client and crew.
- The relationship between the showcaller and the producer is totally critical to succesful outcomes. We rely entirely on the information you give to us to make a show work. The quality of the information is provided varies greatly.
- Despite of, and sometimes because of, the pressures It can be a wonderful job.
This course explains what works best for a showcaller in order to hit the ground running
- It goes in depth into
- The challenges presented onsite and how to best manage them
- Client management, which is a huge issue when combined with time pressures
- Repetitive issues of late delivery of content
- Presenters using far too many notes in their slides
- Both these issues meaning rehearsal becomes a content review
- Rehearsal schedules created by clients without reference to different complexity levels within presentations
- Insufficient technical time
- The course is divided into bitesized videos which you can follow through at your own pace including discussion of now common hybrid events including streaming.
- The course delivers a greater understanding of the role of the Showcaller and their relationship with the Producer together with practical advice on how to put together a showbook and how to showcall if you find yourself in that position
- All technical departments
- Preparation and rehearsals
- Screen presets
- How to integrate them into your showcalling
- The challenges of ever changing content delivery.
- How to compile a showbook and work with it during the rehearsals and then the show.
The showcaller is there to work with you to deliver the show you envisage. I have worked on innumberable events over 25 years and bring this experience to life in this course.
Your Instructor
I have been showcalling for more than 25 years on everything from small conferences to arena concerts across the UK and worldwide.
I think of showcalling as the story you and the client have created that you want to tell to the audience and I work with the narrative of my showbook to support you with this.
My theatre background gave me a way of thinking about live events. Over 20 years including the National Theatre, the Old Vic, the Young Vic and as Company Manager for Les Misérables at the Palace Theatre.
Storytelling is at the heart of both theatre and event showcalling. The core discipline is the same, the tools are different but the intention remains consistent. This thinking is at the heart of these courses and the primary method by which I teach.
I work with production companies including Aspect, Imagination, Jack Morton, 2 Degrees Below, BCD, Bray Leino, GSMA for Cue to Cue, Brightfive, Emota, Top Banana and many more. End clients across the spectrum of pharmaceutical, Banking, Big Tech and Government with shows from AGM's to Awards, from Hair Shows to the Tour De France.
I have called and company managed shows working with performers, musicians, musical directors and choreographers and with live broadcast and TV recordings including showcalling the 25th Anniversary Concerts of Les Misérables at the O2 and Phantom of the Opera at the Albert Hall.
Alongside these courses I run live Zoom training sessions as a practical follow-up to the online courses and I offer team training to event companies in their offices.
